Porsche of Colorado Springs Prepares for 2019\u00a0Pikes Peak Hill Climb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Porsche of Colorado Springs is gearing up to participate in\u00a0the 97<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0running of\u00a0Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on\u00a0June 30, 2019.\u00a0<\/span>Read on to learn more about the\u00a0<\/span>upcoming 2019 hill climb and for a recap of what you missed in the 2018 event.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also referred to as the\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Race to the Clouds<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>hill climb<\/span>\u00a0is an invitational automobile and motorcycle hill climb to the summit of Pike\u2019s Peak, the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.\u00a0<\/span>The 12.42-mile stretch of road boasts\u00a0156 turns and climbs 4,720 ft<\/span>.<\/span>, starting at an altitude of 9,390 ft. and reaching\u00a014,115 ft. at the peak.\u00a0The intense altitude change\u00a0poses a unique challenge to competitors, as the thin air\u00a0<\/span>slows reflexes and\u00a0robs internal combustion engines of up to 30% power.\u00a0<\/span>The esteemed event holds rank as America\u2019s second-oldest auto race and takes place right on our home turf\u00a0just outside of Colorado Springs.<\/span>\u00a0Year after year, our staff at Porsche of Colorado Springs works to prepare top-condition vehicles to meet the challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"2018<\/span><\/h3>\n

2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb<\/span>\u00a0Recap<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

For the 2018<\/span>\u00a0Pikes Peak International Hill Climb<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>motorsport legend\u00a0<\/span>Travis Pastrana drove for Porsche of Colorado Springs in the newly formed Porsche GT4 class.<\/span>\u00a0To make for a level playing field, each 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport was prepared to a specification. Despite not having raced at Pikes Peak in over a decade, Pastrana finished first in the class with a 10:33.897 timed run.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0David Donohue entered the Run to the Clouds for his second time, competing in a Porsche 911\u00a0<\/span>GT3 R race car<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>prepared<\/span>\u00a0here at\u00a0<\/span>Porsche of Colorado<\/span>\u00a0Springs<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his very first run\u00a0<\/span>to the peak<\/span>\u00a0in 2017, Donohue\u00a0<\/span>drove for\u00a0<\/span>Porsche of Colorado Springs<\/span>\u00a0with a<\/span>\u00a02014 Porsche 911 Turbo S modified with parts from the 911 GT3 R, the 911 GT America and the 911 GT3 Cup. The model was affectionately nicknamed “911 Turbo S GT3 R America Cup.” Donohue<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>finished second in Time Attack 1 with a time of 9:49.95<\/span>4.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sporting more advanced aero and a more serious set of racing tires in the 2018 event, Donohue set a new Time Attack 1 record with a 9:37.152 timed run, scoring a class win and fifth overall behind the open and unlimited classes<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
