What\u2019s New on the 992-Generation Porsche 911<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With production starting on the 8th generation of 911s since the model\u2019s debut in 1963, Porsche enthusiasts are itching to get a closer look at what the new age brings to the table. Dubbed the 992, the new line of Porsche 911s makes a significant move from the last generation. Thus far, the company has launched just two 992 models, the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S, with each available in a Cabriolet body style. See what Porsche has in store for the so-called 992 in this review of what\u2019s new for this eighth generation of 911s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Performance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Both 992 models come equipped with a 3-liter twin-turbo flat 6-cylinder engine, delivering up to 443 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The refined engine launches the Carrera S from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and gives a top track speed of 191 mph. The Carrera 4S reaches that 60-mph mark in just in 3.4 seconds and sails at a top track speed of 190 mph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exterior Design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The new generation of 992s now feature a wide rear bodywork, which was used only on the all-wheel-drive and GTS models of the previous generation<\/a>. The change means all 992s now have a set of shapely 72.0-inch-wide hips in the back. Porsche evens out the vehicle\u2019s figure with a 1.6-inch wider front track, wider front fenders and a steering ratio that\u2019s up to 11% more direct for a more responsive driving experience. The model\u2019s wheelbase length remains unchanged, but overall length gets extended by about an inch due to a more rounded nose style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interior Features<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A reimagined interior makes it clear that the 911 has entered a new era. The traditional five-dial instrument cluster setup still prevails on the all-new model, but only the central tachometer features a mechanical needle. The four dials joining it on each side are digitally rendered on a pair of LCD screens. The screen for the digital dials on the left also doubles as a display for the various driver-assistance systems added to the model, including the lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning. There\u2019s no missing the new 911’s 11-inch touchscreen located in the center stack \u2013 a massive leap from the 7-inch screen found on the previous model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
