1962 Porsche 356 B Notchback in Colorado Springs, CO

Over the Porsche 356’s 18-year run, Porsche had manufactured about 76,000 models — half of which still exist today. The 356 model lineage is adored by Porsche enthusiasts for its simple and easy to maintain mechanics, secure appreciation rate and its undeniable charisma.
Emerging towards the end of the 356’s long production run, the 356 B Notchback brought a charming twist to the lineup. It all started when Porsche decided to change things up for the 1961 model year, welding a hardtop onto the 356 Cabriolet body to create what we now call the 356 B Notchback. Keep reading to learn more about the 1962 Porsche 356 B Notchback or to check out our Porsche Classic inventory at Porche of Colorado Springs.

Experience Automotive History with the 1962 Porsche 356 B Notchback

Available from 1961 to 1962, the 356 B Notchback came at a time of massive demand for Porsche. During the model’s short production run, about 1,900 were manufactured. Though affectionately referred to as the “Notchback” by many for its distinct body style, the model was sold by Porsche under the name Karmann Hardtop Coupe.
Despite carrying the same name, the 1962 Porsche 356 B Notchback was a very different design than the 1961 model. Referred to as the T6 production line, the new Notchback’s body did not start as a Cabriolet, but with its own production design that entails part cabriolet rear end design, part T6 coupe windshield frame and a unique hard top. Some prominent changes seen in the T6 involved the addition of twin engine cover grilles, an external gas filler lid on the right front fender and larger windows. This model year proved to be the last for the Notchback. It was dropped from the lineup just after the company celebrated the 50,000th Porsche produced.
