1970 Porsche 911S in Colorado Springs CO

Considered one of the most sought-after 911s of the model’s first era, the 911S stays true to the original 911 concept with its long hood and small bumpers, while still enjoying some crucial improvements made in the beginning years.
In its earliest years, the 911 was built around the more modest 2.0-liter rear-mounted engine, delivering up to 130 bhp. Porsche soon recognized consumers wanted a more performance-orientated version of the spunky car. That’s when the Porsche 911S was born.
Having emerged in 1966, the 911S (Super) offered a boost in power to 160 bhp by making the move to mechanical fuel injection. To handle this extra power, improvements were made to the vehicle’s chassis and brakes, including the addition of lightweight Fuchs wheels, a rear anti-roll bar, Koni shocks and ventilated disc brakes. The model carried on for years virtually unchanged until the 1970s where it received a series of enhancements.  Keep reading to learn more about the 1970 Porsche 911S and its role in Porsche history.

Experience a Piece of History with the 1970 Porsche 911S

The 1970 model year brought a long list of improvements to the Porsche 911S. From September 1969 and on, all 911 models were fitted by Porsche with the larger 2.2-liter flat six-cylinder engine, boosting performance yet again to a potent 180 horsepower. A 2.5-inch extension to the wheelbase addressed oversteering issues seen in earlier models to provide better handling.
The addition of aluminum engine lids and partially-aluminum bumpers helped to shave some weight off the vehicle. The 1970 Porsche 911S also received a rubberized exterior coating, which provided better protection from the elements. The hard, asphaltic undercoat of earlier 911s were susceptible to moisture damage and tended to chip over time. A new trigger exterior door handle design replaced the push-button handle due to safety regulations. The interior of the 1970 Porsche 911S saw some fine-tuning as well, gaining a new steering wheel lock and rubber-lined instrument panel gauges.
