How to Transfer a Vehicle Title in Colorado

Unlike buying a new set of mittens or a box of cereal, purchasing a new car comes with a bit of extra paperwork. While it would be nice to be able to put the money on the table and drive off in your new vehicle, you must take care of the extra details. The rewarding experience of purchasing a car from a private seller comes with the responsibility of transferring the title. See how to transfer a vehicle title in Colorado!

Certified Pre-Owned Porsches

When buying from a private seller, you must sign off with the original seller before taking the vehicle to the nearest DMV. There are a few different things you’ll need to bring with you, and those include:

  • Complete original Vehicle Title (including signatures from your seller, sale date and price, odometer reading, and your name/address)
  • Passed emissions inspection (Not required in Mesa County)
  • Application for Title & Registration
  • Proof of insurance
  • Any form of secure/verifiable identification
  • Payment method for transfer fees and taxes

After you’ve completed all this, you can expect your new title in the mail within about six weeks. That’s all there is to it! You can then drive off in your new vehicle.
