The Porsche 718 sports car is split into two different overarching models – the Cayman fastback coupe and the Boxster roadster. The Boxster/Cayman combo was first introduced back for the 1997 model year and they have been an integral part of the lineup ever since. In 2015, amidst the models’ third generation, the company introduced a pair of new, even higher performing versions of the two vehicles. For the roadster version, it was the Boxster Spyder. Upon introducing the fourth generation’s version of the vehicle, however, Porsche adjusted the name slightly to just the 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, available right here in Colorado Springs CO.
The 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 are both very similar to one another, much like the ordinary Boxster and Cayman. Both feature upgrades that enhance the sporty design, aerodynamics and overall performance of the vehicles.
Let’s dive a bit more specifically into some of the specs & features that make the 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder such a great sports car option. Rather than the engine used to power the ordinary 718 models, the Spyder is powered by a 4.0L flat-6 engine that was derived from the 3.0L engine that powers the 911. It’s capable of generating 414 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
As for those exterior changes we mentioned, the 718 Spyder was made to have a much more aggressive-looking body style. This was made possible thanks to several changes that include a new front bumper, an enlarged diffuser, wider exhaust pipe dispersal and a lower overall stance. Several other upgrades and enhancements include parts borrowed from different Porsche 911 models, such as the front suspension system, brakes, adaptive dampers and more.
