Porsche 911 Dakar Performance Demonstrated in Testing

Porsche 911 Dakar undergoes a testing program on gravel, sand, and snow

Porsche unveiled a very special variant of the iconic 911: the new Porsche 911 Dakar, at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16, 2022. This is the first two-door sports car from Porsche to offer off-road capabilities. The model’s name is a tribute to the first overall victory by Porsche in the Paris-Dakar rally in 1986, and it comes with an all-wheel-drive system for the first time in a 911. The development engineers around General Project Manager Achim Lamparter used the off-road proving grounds in Weissach, Germany, as well as in other extreme conditions to the tune of more than 300,000 miles, including more than 6,000 miles off-road. Keep scrolling down to learn more about the performance demonstrated by the Porsche 911 Dakar during this testing, presented to you today by our team at Porsche of Colorado Springs in Colorado Springs, CO.

Extensive testing program underwent by the Porsche 911 Dakar

In order to test the car’s handling on typical rally courses and fine-tune the suspension, the Château de Lastours test track in southern France was used. The Porsche works driver who tested the 911 Dakar at this track was absolutely stunned by the car’s performance and had huge admiration for the 911 Dakar’s spirited off-road performance. The 911 Dakar was put to the test at the large testing grounds in Arjeplog, Sweden. The two-time world rally champion Walter Röhrl was mighty impressed with the car’s handling on snow and ice. The focus was on traction and steering precision, owing to the low friction coefficient on the snow, and the Porsche 911 Dakar excelled here as well.

Finally, the new 911 Dakar also had to prove itself on fast sand tracks in Dubai and Morocco through an extensive testing program in the desert. Needless to say, the Porsche 911 Dakar delivered strong performance even in the desert, thanks to its higher ground clearance and the powerful rear-mounted engine. Overall, the new 911 Dakar came out with flying colors and was quoted as a blast to drive.
